The therapeutic modality used will depend on the presenting concerns. To help you understand our choice of modality, here is a breakdown of some Evidence-based modalities used by us and their effectiveness in helping you with your concerns:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): helps you make connections between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. This form of therapy is effective in helping individuals manage experiences related to anxiety, depression, addictions, and trauma. https://www.apa.org/ptsd-guideline/patients-and-families/cognitive-behavioral
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): this form of therapy at times incorporates elements of CBT, however, DBT offers specific skills and techniques to assist individuals who are struggling with emotional dysregulation, distress, and interpersonal relationship concerns. https://www.psychologytoday.com/ca/therapy-types/dialectical-behavior-therapy
- Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): is a short-term goal-focused evidence-based therapeutic approach, which incorporates positive psychology principles and practices, and which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems. In the most basic sense, SFBT is a hope friendly, positive emotion eliciting, future-oriented vehicle for formulating, motivating, achieving, and sustaining desired behavioral change. https://solutionfocused.net/what-is-solution-focused-therapy/
- Narrative Therapy: is a form of counseling that views people as separate from their problems. This allows clients to get some distance from the issue to see how it might actually be helping them, or protecting them, more than it is hurting them. With this new perspective, individuals feel more empowered to make changes in their thought patterns and behavior and “rewrite” their life story for a future that reflects who they are, what they are capable of, and what their purpose is, separate from their problems. https://narrativetherapycentre.com/about/
- Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT): is an attachment-based approach that combines both systemic and experiential interventions to mend broken bonds and heal fractured families. It focus on the emotional experience within a family and the problem patterns that block family members from accessing the resources they would otherwise share. A primary goal of EFFT is to reduce problematic behavior by creating new patterns of emotional accessibility and responsiveness that offer a secure base for children to develop and families to thrive. EFFT provides a practical approach to engaging families at an emotional level. Accessing, processing, and connecting family members through the power of emotional experience promotes healing and fosters a family’s resilience to the everyday and unexpected challenges of life. https://efftinternational.org/the-model
